Perfectly Polished Tips 49 - Lemming Boards

Some people like to use lemming wheels to swatch their stash, but some people also don't have access to these lemming wheels/boards. I have yet to find them in real life. I've found them decently priced on ebay. My only problem with them is that my stash changes often. So now I have 11 color wheels filled with colors I no longer own. I went ahead and made a "ghetto" version of a lemming board with card board, fake tips, and glue (tacky glue and nail glue). So now if I decide to toss it I won't think about the time & money spent on shipping. I believe the real lemming wheels are reusable but I would imagine it would be a pain to do. Here is the lemming board I made:

A closer view of the polishes I swatched:

the numbers are revered so 10-1: OPI Blue Moon Lagoon, Hard Candy Sky, ChG Blue Sparrow, Zoya Kotori, Essie Starry Starry Night, NARS Midnight Express Franken, CND Blue Blood, Chanel Blue Satin, ChG Indian Ocean, SpaRitual Surreal

1-10: Chelsea Pyscho Green, CND NFS, OPI Green-wich Village, ChG Shower Together, Teal Franken, ChG For Audrey, ChG DV8, ChG On the Rocks, Pure Ice Heart Breaker

Your timing is perfect!
I am re-doing my black and brown wheels this morning and I just had to comment!
I have clear wheels with about 18 nails on each wheel.

(BTW,I find the clear plastic allows me to see the true color interaction with my nailbed and skintone)

The plastic nails have some flex to them and when I no longer want or need a color, I just do what I never do with my natural nails- peel them off!

It really makes up for all the times I restrain myself when I have an edge lifting and just remove the polish like "good girl" should.

The other less-fun alternative is using Scotch tape. It picks up the polish like you wouldn't believe!(and it leaves less polish flakes to clean up later!)

Just my two cents!

I found on transdesign.com the nail boards that can help you. They have the white plastic and clear plastic wheels. They also have a design board with 44 nail tip shapes. The white plastic design wheel comes in a 12 pack for $15.99. Hope this can help you. I enjoy your blog.

Oh, one last thing,
The reason the clear wheels work for me is that I only cover the entire nail tip with the first coat.
The second coat I start an 1/8th of an inch or so up the nail, from the center of the wheel.
The third coat another bit higher still and so on until the color is opaque.
This way I know exactly how many coats I will need to get bottle color. (and how much time will be involved) :P
I can also hold it up to the light to see the base color, which is often much different than the finished product.

Yes, I'm looking directly at you: MPJ, WOaS, EYS and Side-Saddle.

wixbetty - i'm on a budget so this worked out for me. i honestly don't see the point in swatching my stash on the nail wheels. i never thought of peeling the polish off though, i might have to test it out. thanks for the tip on the clear wheels.

anonymous - i was really just bored and wanting to test this out since i had the fake nails laying around. but hopefully if someone else is looking to purchase nail wheels this comes in handy! i'm glad you like my blog <3
